Getting my family outside to enjoy fresh air and sunshine has never felt more crucial after well over a year of being cooped up indoors due to the health crisis. Studies show that spending time outside helps to build confidence in kids, promote happiness and creativity and even teaches responsibility. Although my kids are almost always eager to get outside and play, they often struggle to entertain themselves for longer than 10 or 15 minutes.
A recent survey fielded by the makers of Claritin® found that 72% of parents surveyed believe their family doesn't spend enough time outside. But, when they do get outside, 49% of parents surveyed report that their kids find the outdoors boring. How eye-opening!
Spending quality time with my family outdoors this spring and summer is a priority. We love to ride bikes through the neighborhood, hike local trails, and spend time around our fire pit, but we can definitely use some fresh new ideas. That's why I am excited to partner with Claritin® on their new initiative, The Outsideologist Project! The program aims to get 1.2 million kids outside for an extra hour each week by providing families with expert-guided activities to bust boredom and foster a love of the outdoors.

Claritin® recently sent my family a kit from The Outsideologist Project, and my 5-year-old couldn't wait to get out and use it! Together, we searched for and identified birds in our backyard. We also used our new gardening tools to plant tomatoes and fresh herbs. We ended the afternoon with a lemonade break and watched the clouds roll across the sky. My daughter enjoyed finding the shape of an animal or object in each cloud. It was a fantastic day!
