Well, that was a year. Am I right?

As we turn our calendars to 2021 we're feeling so much more hopeful that the end of the pandemic is in sight and are optimistic about a much brighter year ahead. My family worked on creating a 2021 bucket list of fun things we want to do in Jeffersonville, Clarksville, New Albany (and surrounding areas) in 2021, many of which we missed out on during 2020 because of COVID.

And I wanted to share it with you!

Here's our 2021 family bucket list of family-friendly, fun in Southern Indiana (in no particular order). What does your family have on your bucket list of family fun for the coming year?

Dig for Fossils
We've explored the fossil beds at Falls of the Ohio State Park many times. But did you know they have fossil and mineral collecting piles that you can actually dig in?

  • Become regulars at the Farmer's Market. Before hitting up the grocery, why not check out the local fare at one of the many Farmer's Markets in our area? Our Farmer's Market Guide - coming in May - will give you the scoop on all of our local markets, including business hours and locations.
  • Catch a movie outdoors. Our local park departments do a wonderful job offering family movie nights throughout the summer. You can also take advantage of our local drive-in theaters in the Fall, such as Georgetown Drive-In and Sauerbeck Family Drive In.
  • Get artsy. Whether participating in a local art event put on by the NoCo Arts & Cultural District or taking an art class at one of the many studios in Southern Indiana (think Uptown Art, Wholly Rustic, and Earth and Fire Pottery), you and your family can get creative together!
  • Plan a family game night. I'm not just talking about board games on your coffee table - although those nights can be a blast too! I'm talking taking the family out to dine in and get competitive at Union Restaurant and Game Yard or RECBAR 812

  • Explore a cave or two. Indiana is known for it's caves and two big ones are located right here in Southern Indiana (Harrison County): Indiana Caverns and Squire Boone Caverns.  Bring a picnic and make a day of it!

  • Bake more. Learn a new recipe or two to create in the kitchen with your kiddos. Or send them to MESA Kids Cooking School to participate in one of their delicious workshops - and hope they have extras to bring home and share.
  • Visit a museum. Southern Indiana has quite a few kid friendly museums and historic sites. From the Howard Steamboat Museum and Vintage Fire Museum in Jeffersonville to the Carnegie Center and Culbertson Mansion in New Albany, I'm sure we'll be able to make time for a visit or two.
  • Ride the Greenway. The Ohio River Greenway is a 7.5 mile multi-use trail along the Ohio River that connects New Albany, Clarksville, and  Jeffersonsville - and provides amazing views of the Ohio River and the Louisville skyline.
  • Go to ALL the events. Because we've missed them so much! Keep track of upcoming live events and other local, family fun by checking out our Event Calendar.

Hike a new trail. Whether you find a trail at a city park or one in a state park, make time to get out and explore the beautiful nature of Southern Indiana.
