This season is filled with delightful musicals that share valuable lessons about fitting in, accepting differences, and being a good friend. Through the magic of live theatre, Derby Dinner hopes to entertain while demonstrating these values in action.
The 2019-2020 Season offers the following musicals: SPOOKLEY THE SQUARE PUMPKIN THE MUSICAL, CHRISTMAS IN CANDYLAND, A YEAR WITH FROG & TOAD, and POLKADOTS. Season subscribers receive over 50% off the price of a child’s ticket when a season ticket is ordered for all four shows (limit 3 kids per adult). That equals 2 FREE SHOWS for your child when you subscribe!
Derby Dinner’s Children’s Musical Theatre features breakfast and lunch performances on Saturdays with a freshly prepared buffet that offers kid friendly food - even for the picky eaters! The one-hour performances are just the right length for kids and all performances are suitable for ages 3 to 12. Derby Dinner Playhouse also offers free parking. Pre-show activities add to the fun with a visit from Bravo the Star, our Children’s Theatre mascot, at each performance. All of the shows in the Children’s Musical Theatre Series are specially selected for our audiences. This ensures that we meet the educational goals of both Indiana and Kentucky.
SPOOKLEY THE SQUARE PUMPKIN THE MUSICAL (October 5, 12, 19, 26, 28, November 2, 9, 2019) Adapted from the best-selling Spookley book series and airing on the Disney Channel each year, this animated special has long been a Halloween tradition for familes across the country. A musical with big heart!
CHRISTMASIN CANDYLAND (November 16, 23, 29, 30, December 7, 14, 21, 23, 2019)When Nick and Noelle receive a special ticket to Candyland, they are transported to a magically sweet world. Helped along the way by colorful characters like Betty Butterscotch, they work to defeat the selfish Lord Licorice on a journey full of sweet surprises.
A YEAR WITH FROG & TOAD (February 22, 29, March 7, 14, 16, 21, 28, 2020) A Broadway hit based on Arnold Lobel’s well-loved books, this whimsical show follows two great friends – cheerful Frog and the rather grumpy Toad – through four fun-filled seasons!
POLKADOTS – THE COOL KIDS MUSICAL (May 23, 30, June 6, 13, 15, 20, 27, 2020) Lily has just moved to the small town of Rockaway and is the only Polkadot in a town full of Squares. This new musical serves as a colorful history lesson reminding us that our individual differences make us awesome!
